HIGHLIGHTS: |
- Situated in the heart of Asia, sandwiched between Russia and China, Mongolia is a remote destination that few people have been fortunate enough to visit. The home of Genghis Khan is one of outstanding scenery in which the nomadic lifestyle of many Mongolians continues as it has done for hundreds of years. Our tour through this marvellous country travels through vast rolling steppe and the stony Gobi desert. It passes alongside some of the largest sand dunes in the world and visits the upland habitats of the Gobi Altai and the southern edge of the vast Siberian boreal forest. Journey with us in search of such species as Oriental Plover, Relict Gull, Henderson’s Ground Jay, Pallas’s Sandgrouse, and Kozlov’s Accentor. Chris Bradshaw has travelled extensively in Central Asia and this will be his second visit to Mongolia
- Away from Ulaanbaatar we stay in clean, comfortable, but sometimes basic tourist camps where possible. However, we have to camp in locations where these are not available. Our ground agents provide tasty meals on simple camping stoves and make the camping experience as comfortable as possible. In Ulaanbaatar a variety of international cuisines are available.
- Transport is by 4x4 vehicles. Participants on this tour should be prepared for some long drives on rough roads. Walks are mostly short to medium in length over relatively flat terrain but one or two more strenuous hikes may be necessary to find some species.
