The age old tradition of falconry (training raptors to catch prey) was still practiced in Bayan Ulgy during Communism. In 1990, people in this far flung western aimag were given the opportunity to visit their relatives in China and Kazakhstan for the first time in 60 years.

Stunning Altai Tavan Bogd National Park follows the greatest attraction in Western Mongolia.

NORTHERN MONGOLIA

Lake Hovsgol is located in the Northwest of Mongolia, close to the Russian border, at an altitude of 1,645 m above sea level. It covers an area of 2,760 sq. km and is Mongolia’s second largest lake and by volume (480.7 cubic km) even Mongolia’s largest lake. Lake Hovsgol holds approx. 70 % of Mongolia’s freshwater (surface water).

Karakorum is one of sum/town/ of Ovorkhangai province in Mongolia which is located by the Orkhon River. Mongolian ancient capital city Karakorum of 13th Century. In two centuries later Erdene Zuu Monastery built on the ruin of Karakorum.

SOUTHERN MONGOLIA

Gobi is the home of the ancient dinosaurs and the bottom of the mysterious dead ocean. There are many wild animals, including black-tailed gazelles, marbled polecats, Bactrian camels,

Fishing on the Eg, Uur, Delgermoron, Ider, Chuluut, Selenge, rivers. Fisheries are Lenok, Grayling, Taimen, Pike and Perch etc.

Visit local families - There are some nomadic families near the camp and visitors may visit them and drink Mongolian traditional tea. You can see how Mongolians milk sheep, goats; make tea and dairy products like yogurt, cheese, dried curds, etc.
